Geologic Cross Section

This is a geologic cross section across southwestern Wyoming eastward from the Overthrust Belt across the Moxa Arch, Green River Basin, Rock Springs Uplift, and Washakie Basin. The 2-5 cross section shows the Precambrian basement rocks overlain by varying thicknesses of Paleozoic to Cenozoic formations; some large-scale geologic structures; and major faults. The structural basins are depressions in the crust in which thicker sedimentary rock units accumulated. The uplifts and structural arches mark where the crust upwarped, and associated folding and faulting.
