Washakie Basin (Entire Geological Time Period)

Washakie Basin (Entire Geological Time Period) Multiple Photos Gilbert delta prograding into lacustrine environment. View is from topsets down the foreset bed. Delta is located on Delaney Rim, northern Washakie Basin. Ken Stanley, lacustrine expert, standing on strandline (stromatolitic layer) in Laney Member of Green River Formation at Delaney Rim, northern Washakie Basin. Multiple Photos Repetitive stratification sequences in Laney Member of Green River Formation at Kinney Rim, western Washakie Basin. Darker layers deposited in a lacustrine environment (gray to black) are oil shale, and lighter layers are kerogen-poor dolostones representing a carbonate-rich mudflat. Stratification sequences are interpreted as transgressions (high strands) and regressions (low-strands) of Eocene Lake Gosuite. Lacustrine beach deposits in Laney Member of Green River Formation. Each stratification sequence is characterized typically by lean oil shale overlain by horizontally bedded mudrock (with gastropods and ostracodes), overlain by ripple-laminated, very fine- to fine-grained sandstone; and overlain by cross-bedded, ripple cross-laminated, and horizontally bedded medium-grained sandstones.
