Wyoming State Geological Survey -- New Projects

Recently Released Projects

Go to WSGS Yellowstone

With funding from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 2010, the Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) created the Yellowstone Geologic GIS Database to provide geologic information and updates of recent geologic activity in Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park is located primarily in northwestern Wyoming and extends into Montana and Idaho. The Yellowstone volcanic province is the most significant geologic hazard in Wyoming: volcanic activity in the Yellowstone area has the potential to catastrophically affect Wyoming, the western United States, and the northern hemisphere.

Go to WSGS Wyoming Stratigraphy

The position of strata in Wyoming with relationship to the geological time scale.

Go to WSGS Greater Green River Basin

In 2007, the Wyoming Water and Development Commission funded the Green River Basin groundwater project in order to update the 2001 Green River Water Plan (States West Water Resources Corporation, 2001). The project was conducted by personnel at the Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) in Laramie, the United State Geological Survey (USGS), Wyoming Water Science Center in Cheyenne, and the Water Resources Data System (WRDS) in Laramie.

This study updates, revises, and expands the groundwater report contained in the 2001 Green River Basin Water Plan as the Available Groundwater Determination Technical Memorandum., data May 4, 2001 (Hahn and Jessen, 2001).
