WSGS Interns for 2005
Julie Werner is the 2005 Coal Section Intern. She looks at things in the coal field such as well water quality, energy solutions, and GIS applications of this data. She is a senior in Civil/Environmental Engineering here at the University of Wyoming and will be graduating in December 2005. David Weiser is the IT Intern for 2005. He does web and software development. He just graduated from the University of Wyoming with a degree in Computer Science and Math. Jim Stafford, Industrial Minerals and Uranium Section (IM&U) summer intern for 2005 is a native of Chugwater , Wyoming and graduated with a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado in May, 2005 with a major in hydrology, and minors in both atmospheric science and geography. He has had previous experience in Arc Map and other Arc mapping and geographical programs. Jim hopes to be able to work in Wyoming , and use his map skills in the state. Jim is using his computer mapping skills to help the IM&U section compile a 1:100,000 scale digital bedrock geologic map of the Lusk Quadrangle. When he completes the compilation from published maps, we will field check and modify the map to completely update it and publish it as a part of the WSGS summary of the Powder River Basin studies, as the map area includes the southeasternmost corner of the basin. Following the completion of the Lusk map, as his time permits, Jim will help with the IM&U section's uranium maps, including updating the statewide uranium map and initiating interactive uranium maps by county (the section has completed Carbon, Converse, Fremont, and Natrona Counties, next to be completed include Albany, Campbell, Johnson, and Sweetwater Counties). Vandy Jones is a student in the Geology Department of the University of Wyoming. She is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Geology. She also has a Bachelor of Science in History from the University of Wyoming. Her duties will include scanning and plotting maps for the drafting and sales departments of the Wyoming Geological Survey, aiding in the inventory of paper and ink for the plotters and general up-keep of the plotters. She will also be working on digitizing maps and doing map layout in Arcinfo. She will be using Arcinfo, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator in the cousre of her internship.
