About Us
The Geologic Mapping Section provides information on the general geology, structural geology, and stratigraphy of Wyoming. The
Section draws from its extensive files or directs inquirers to other sources of additional information or data.

The Geologic Mapping Section's current efforts are grouped into two categories: (1) geologic mapping and map compilation and
(2) information dissemination. In regard to geologic mapping or compilation, priority is given to completing maps for the
more populated areas within Wyoming. These types of projects are designed to aid the efforts of city and county planners,
as well as mineral and energy industries. In regard to information dissemination, the Section responds to all inquiries
directed to it, and has published or prepares selective bibliographies on Wyoming geology on demand.

The Section has also prepared 19 index maps (1:1,000,000-scale), which depict the boundaries and names of existing geologic
maps within the State of Wyoming. These indices and many of the depicted geologic maps are available from the Wyoming State
