In Memory of Ray E. Harris
1947-2006
| Ray Harris was Senior Geologist and head of the Industrial Minerals and
Uranium Section of the Wyoming State Geological Survey from July 1982 to March 2006. A native of Indiana, Ray earned
Bachelors and Masters degrees in Geology from the University of Wyoming and spent the early part of his geologic career
in uranium exploration. He also was involved in gold, rare earth, and other metal exploration with Burlington Northern
Minerals before joining the Wyoming State Geological Survey. He was an authority on uranium deposits worldwide, and soon
became an expert on Wyoming’s industrial minerals with the Survey. His dedicated service to the State of Wyoming exceeded
25 years, and he enjoyed sharing his wealth of knowledge and experience about the state’s geology and mineral resources
with others. | | The staff of the Wyoming State Geological Survey wishes to express their deepest sympathy
to his wife Mary and the Harris family. It is difficult to express in words how much he meant to the Survey and how much
he will be missed. |
