An earthquake of magnitude 3.7 and intensity III occurred approximately 26 kilometers (16 miles) southeast of Smoot, Wyoming at 8:52 p.m. MST on February 24, 2007. The minimal-intensity earthquake was felt as intensity III in Big Piney and Green River, Wyoming. No damage has been reported to date.

The Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) received data on the earthquake from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colorado. The USGS estimated the depth of the earthquake at approximately 0.7 kilometers (0.4 miles), and located the epicenter 26 kilometers (16 miles) southeast of Smoot and 36 kilometers (22 miles) southeast of Afton, Wyoming. The USGS classified the earthquake as minor.

The WSGS has generated seismological characterizations of all Wyoming counties, available at http://www.wrds.uwyo.edu/wrds/wsgs/hazards/quakes/seischar/seischar.html. These characterizations include analyses of historic seismicity for each county and projections of possible future earthquakes.
