Earthquake felt in northwestern Wyoming

A magnitude 4.1, intensity III earthquake occurred 23 miles south-southwest of Cooke City, Montana at 4:59 MST on March 25, 2008. The U.S. Geological Survey National Earthquake Information Center in Golden, Colorado reported this earthquake to the Wyoming State Geological Survey. The quake was felt as intensity III in Yellowstone National Park, Cody, and Powell, Wyoming and as intensity II in Thermopolis, Wyoming. No damage has been reported from this event at this time.

The WSGS has generated seismological characterizations of all Wyoming counties (see http://www.wrds.uwyo.edu/wrds/wsgs/hazards/quakes/seischar/seischar.html), which include analyses of historic seismicity as well as projections of possible future earthquakes.
