New Hunting Area Index Maps for Wyoming
Good news for hunters buying topographic maps! The Wyoming State Geological Survey (WSGS) is now selling a series of maps that show the 2004 Wyoming Hunt Areas superimposed on topographic map indices. The maps combine the traditional Index to U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Topographic Maps of Wyoming with the latest hunting areas designated by the Wyoming Department of Game and Fish.
Topographic map indices are available for hunt areas for each of these game animals: mule deer, whitetail deer, moose, elk, antelope, Bighorn sheep, and mountain goat. One index covers the detailed 1:24,000-scale, 7 1/2-minute USGS Quadrangle maps; another index covers the less detailed 1:100,000-scale and 1:250,000-scale quadrangle maps, including the 1:100,000-scale BLM land ownership maps and the standard 1:100,000-scale USGS topographic maps.
Each map index sells for $5.00 and is available either folded or rolled. Shipping and handling is $2.55 per map, but orders for multiple maps may cost less to ship. Wyoming addresses should include 6% sales tax (calculated before adding shipping and handling). Maps are available over the counter at the WSGS Publications Sales Office on the University of Wyoming campus in Laramie. Orders may also be placed by phone, fax, or Email.
The WSGS also offers a complete line of map products for hunters, including all Wyoming topographic maps at various scales; ownership maps showing public, private, and state lands; digital topographic map software products that can be used with a personal computer; scales and conversions for using topographic maps with global positioning systems (GPS) devices; and aids in using GPS units. Feel free to contact the WSGS with your map questions.
